Wednesday 02 December 2009 - National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham
The second annual conference for allied health professionals (AHPs), healthcare scientists (HCSs), pharmacists and psychologists is aimed at those who are interested in the ways in which informatics can enable us to provide better safer clinical services.
We aim to make the day a participative and valuable opportunity to meet and network with other healthcare practitioners experiencing and developing systems and technology in practice.
Interactive workshops will include the following topics:
Senior representatives from the Department of Health, NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH) and the NHS Information Centre will address delegates to connect current policy with practice.
Those attending will be encouraged to share examples of emerging best practice, see what progress is currently being made and how IT can and does support innovation in practice.
The event has been planned collaboratively by members of the NHS CFH National Advisory Group which includes professional body IM&T representatives. We have been keen to include content that is not constrained to NHS CFH systems and services so that it encompasses the wider informatics agenda and creates an environment for sharing practice.
Bookings are now being taken and can be made online. To view the full draft agenda or book a place, please visit: http://etdevents.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk/2484
The conference is free to all delegates and includes lunch and refreshments. However, travel expenses are excluded.

It is estimated as many as 3 million people in the UK are affected by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The National Clinical Strategy for COPD is currently in development, with the consultation document due for released by the Department of Health later this year.
“NHS services for people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) have improved over the past five years but the quality of services offered varies considerably and often falls short of national quality standards. This is the main finding of the latest national audit into the acute care of COPD, which is the fifth biggest killer in the UK, the second most common cause of emergency admission to hospital and one of the most costly in-patient conditions treated within the NHS.” ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS
Through a series of presentations, this one day conference, chaired by Kevin Holton Head of COPD Programme Department of Health, looks forward to the soon to be released National Clinical Strategy with Professor Sue Hill Chair and Clinical Lead The National Clinical Strategy for COPD examining the responses to the consultation and how it will improve and monitor the quality of COPD services. You will also hear from a variety of healthcare professionals on developing quality indicators and metrics, improving quality, auditing COPD services and improving end of life care for COPD patients.
